I am a qualified, highly motivated and dedicated specialist tutor with teaching specialisms in Early Years (age 3+), Primary Education, Special Educational Needs, Sensory & Auditory Processing Disorders, LAMDA Exam Coaching and Performing Arts. Alongside my Qualified Teacher Status, I have a BA with Honours in English Literacy, Language and Communications.
I hold a wealth of teaching experience across all three primary key-stages (EYFS, KS1, Lower KS2) both in the UK and overseas, and have experience working with children and young people with specific educational needs, and learners from bilingual backgrounds (EAL/ESL).
I have worked in a range of 1:1 tutoring roles - primarily supporting children with complex learning, behavioural, social and emotional needs. I provide bespoke sessions with an emphasis on play-based, child-led learning and personalise each of my sessions around creative 'hooks', fun learning tasks and key interests of the child.
I have a thorough understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and National Primary Curriculum (English and Maths), and specialist subject knowledge of the Maths Mastery Scheme, Dramatic Progress in Literacy Units and the Letters & Sounds Phonics Programme. I also have experience in Key Stage 1 and 2 - preparing pupils for end of term examinations and administering National Curriculum Tests, such as: Year 1 Phonics Screening Check, Year 2 SATs and Year 6 SATs.
In my role as Reception Phase Lead, I led on staff training and parent workshops around key aspects of the Early Years Curriculum. Alongside this, I was responsible for implementing and monitoring targeted interventions, including: Maths, Reading, Phonics, Handwriting (fine and gross motor), Behavioural/Social Skills and Speech and Language (articulation, fluency and voice disorders). These interventions included: Reading Recovery, Fabulous Phonics and Talk Boost and enabled children with processing disorders, communication difficulties and low confidence to make accelerated progress in these areas. They benefited greatly from working at a slower pace in smaller groups - each with individualised learning goals. Furthermore, the children also gained wider access to the curriculum through the use of clear, visual aids, an 'active learner' approach and multi-sensory teaching methods.
I have worked closely alongside other Educational Professionals, such as: SENCo's, Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Literacy and Maths Consultants. I have inputted on Individual Education Plans, Curriculum Frameworks and supported children with Communication, Social and Behavioural needs. I have extensive experience and training in using the following teaching tools and strategies to help meet the needs of children with Autism, ADHD, Processing/Communication Difficulties: PECS, Visual Timetables, Now/Next Task Stations, Choice Boards, Communicate: In Print and Social Stories.
In my current work as a Drama Practitioner, Theatre-in-Education Facilitator and Primary Educator - I deliver Drama, Dance and Music workshops that inspire confidence through creativity. I ensure that workshop content is engaging, challenging and that every child develops at their own pace through skills-based group activities and performance opportunities. Both creative and educational - my workshops focus on social interactions, building confidence and developing communication and performance skills.
I frequently use musical rhymes and chants, stories and songs and dance routines in my sessions to help with memory recall and to enable 'active-learners' to access their learning in more creative ways. I am a big believer of using the Creative Arts (Drama, Dance, Music) in my sessions. These holistic and participatory teaching methods puts the learner at the core and promotes a love of learning in a safe and nurturing space.
