- In Person
I am a fully qualified and very experienced Primary teacher, with over 25 years spent in large primary schools as both teacher and Inclusion Manager/SENDCo.
Having taught in both London and West Sussex, I have now branched out as a Private specialist SEND tutor, mainly working in Alternative Provision, supporting learners with an EHCP who are currently out of mainstream or special education. This has allowed me to really focus on a range of SEND needs including ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Speech Language and Communication Difficulties & Social, Emotional and Mental Health. Whichever the condition/s are that I am supporting, I will endeavour to target my provision using strategies that best support the young person. My sessions will be fun, upbeat and engaging to ensure that best outcomes are achieved. A young person's confidence and sense of themselves as a learner is really key and I believe should be the heart of the tutoring journey.
I have a special interest in Dyslexia after completing a Foundation Masters module at the Institute of Education, London where I attained a grade A. Although I don't carry out diagnostic assessments, I do offer some customized Dyslexia support, offering student a range of key learning strategies to adopt when struggling with Reading and Spelling.
I believe the tutoring journey has to begin with establishing a positive and trusted relationship with my students, thereby allowing optimal learning to take place. I like to begin with tapping into a learner's likes and interests, planning fun and creative learning opportunities around these. I find that I get the most positive outcomes from doing this, as it allows the learner to fully immerse in their own learning, whilst having fun at the same time!
I have excellent communication skills and always strike an open and transparent discussion with parents. I keep them fully informed of learning and progress and will always offer sessional reports and updates as and when needed. This allows the parent to keep up to date with progress made and helps to make the tutoring process more valuable.

I enjoy teaching across the curriculum, with particular focus on Maths, English and Science. Being a music specialist, I do also enjoy incorporating this into my tutoring if the students want to. Depending on the learner's level and nature of need, I will apply appropriate strategies to best unlock the learning for them; be it visual, auditory, kinesthetic. With a student with Autism, I will ensure that a clear workspace is offered, minimal distractions and at times perhaps using a Now&Next board to offer structure to the session.
A good tutor must be open and flexible during the session, listen to the needs of the learner and above all be trusted and open with them. Through my planning, thought needs to be given to the learners style and preference of resources but above all be open minded, as not all sessions will go to plan!
You would like your young person to thrive, make positive progress, feel valued and listened to and above all allow learning barriers to break down. I am energetic in my teaching, think quickly on my feet and always enjoy having some laughs and fun along the way, which I feel is the key to unlocking a positive and successful tutee relationship.
I look forward to connecting with you and hopefully embarking on a positive and successful tutoring journey.
