Skills & Experience

Teaching Philosophy

I have many years' experience teaching in many contexts and have always tutored children one-to-one alongside the whole class approach. I am experienced at liaising with outside agencies for a wide range of special needs and would be very happy to do so to ensure continuity in your child's learning. I review progress regularly and can give advice and support on practical strategies to support learners at home. I have taught right the way across the primary keys stages and am passionate about helping children to achieve their own individual potential by meeting them where they are. This involves an in-depth assessment of a child's needs and strengths and deploying individually tailored lessons to support any gaps identified; I constantly strive to present a learner with choices: learning should be multi-sensory and it needs to be broken down into manageable steps. The intention is to kindle enthusiasm and a passion for the subject being taught, through depth, rigour, and context. I believe that for learning to be effective it has to be relevant to the individual and it should be a joy!

Something Sensational About Me

This is a direct quote from the Reverend John Hicks (Formally an OFSTED inspector and my Headteacher): "Siri is a consistently able teacher and an exceptional role model to other teachers. She is always willing to go the extra mile. I have found Siri to be focussed and hardworking, with a good eye for detail and a very good grasp of ‘what makes a difference' to the learning of pupils. She has been highly effective in whichever year group she has taught. Siri is a resilient individual who has had to work with some of the most challenging children I have ever worked with in my 26 years as a serving teacher…and she has done so with the passionate view that children can and do improve, when stimulated and encouraged, especially through art. Her behaviour management is exceptionally good. She has an innate sense that all children have potential; it is just about unlocking it and giving the skills and experience to develop them. Siri plans and delivers a whole range of subjects and does so effectively and in detail. Parents find Siri to be approachable, honest and direct. I would say that Siri wants nothing less than excellence in all she does, and achieves it too."
