About Me
Skills & Experience
I am a SEND specialist teacher with extensive experience working in a range of primary and secondary settings , both specialist and mainstream, providing personalised support for children and young people from Reception through to Year 13. I have successfully supported learners with a wide range of needs, abilities and educational journeys during a career spanning over 20 years.
My teaching is always tailored to the individual child. I take time to understand what helps them fell safe, confident and ready to learn. My teaching experience includes :
- Functional skills (English and Maths)
- EYFS Literacy development and Intervention
- History-up to A-Level
- Individual, bespoke learning programmes designed around the child rather than the curriculum alone
My main area of expertise is supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. I work particularly well with pupils who may feel anxious, overwhelmed, disengaged from learning, or who have found school a difficult place. I also have extensive experience supporting learners with:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
- Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
- Tourette’s Syndrome
- Complex medical needs
Many of the pupils I support are emotionally based school avoidant (EBSA), neurodivergent, home educated, or accessing alternative provision. My focus is always on building a trusted, positive relationship first, allowing learning to grow naturally from a place of safety and understanding.
My approach and skills:
- Calm, child‑centred and neurodiversity‑affirming practice
- Trauma‑informed support, particularly for SEMH and anxiety
- Flexible, low‑pressure approaches that reduce demand and build trust
- A strong emphasis on confidence, self‑esteem and emotional regulation
- Adapting learning to suit each child’s pace, interests and needs
- Support with literacy and Functional Skills in a gentle, accessible way
- Clear structure alongside flexibility and compassion
- Strong communication with families, schools and professionals
- Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs and complex profiles

My Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is grounded in inclusion, creativity, and a belief that every learner can thrive when they feel understood and valued. I aim to create a supportive, engaging learning environment where strengths are recognised, differences are celebrated, and learning is meaningful and accessible.
