I am a fully qualified and very experienced Primary teacher, with over 25 years spent in large primary schools as both teacher and Inclusion Manage/SENDCo.
Having taught in both London and West Sussex, I have now branched out as a Private specialist SEND tutor, mainly working in Alternative Provision, supporting learners with an EHCP who are currently out of mainstream or special education. This has allowed me to really focus on a range of SEND needs including ASD, ADHD, Speech Language and Communication Difficulties & Social, Emotional and Mental Health.
I have a special interest in Dyslexia after completing a Foundation Masters module at the Institute of Education, London where I attained a grade A. Although I don’t carry out diagnostic assessments, I do offer some customized Dyslexia support, offering student a range of key learning strategies to adopt when struggling with Reading and Spelling.
I believe the tutoring journey has to begin with establishing a positive and trusted relationship with my students, thereby allowing optimal learning to take place. I like to begin with tapping into a learner’s likes and interests, planning fun and creative learning opportunities around these. I find that I get the most positive outcomes from doing this, as it allows the learner to fully immerse in their own learning, whilst having fun at the same time!
I have excellent communication skills and always strike an open and transparent discussion with parents. I keep them fully informed of learning and progress and will always offer sessional reports and updates as and when needed. This allows the parent to keep up to date with progress made and helps to make the tutoring process more valuable.
