Specialist Experience and Skills

Prior to establishing my own Consultancy Service, I set up, established and ran the UK branch of an American company (Center for Autism & Related Disorders), designing and implementing progressive teaching programs for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). I also worked as a Special Needs Teacher in a Unit for children with ASD.

I served as a Consultant and Advisor to a school for children with Autism since its inception over 15 years ago. I visited the school on a weekly basis, to oversee individual programs and teaching, support lesson planning and curriculum development, provide staff training and performance appraisals and contribute to the school’s overall management and development. I held the position of Deputy School Director during my last four years at the school.

My work with individuals at home ranges from teaching children strategies and interventions for promoting academic and developmental learning/progress, communication and social skills development, talking about the ASD diagnosis, advising parents about how to work on self-care and daily living skills, sibling relationships and self occupancy.

I have a great deal of experience supporting children with developing independent learning skills, according to their specific needs. I work on strategies which promote and develop organisation and planning, time management, study skills and reading, interpreting and responding to tasks/questions.

I am always sure to discover the interests of the children I work with and use these as a basis for their teaching and learning. I am very adaptable and flexible in my approach and ensure that I 'hook children in' to whatever it is we are working on. This initial rapport building is essential in developing an effective working relationship.

I offer a wide range of services, including:
• Home education input;
• Classroom and specialist personalised strategies;
• Parent & family support;
• The design and supervision of the implementation of individualised teaching programs;
• Training and advice to teaching staff, SENDCos and parents;
• Behavioural support;
• Curriculum and policy development;
• Liaison with occupational and speech and language therapists;
• Advice on school inclusion, with the aim of achieving appropriate provision for all children.

My Teaching Philosophy

I advocate a child/family centered, individualised approach to interventions for Autism; helping children reach their full potentials and improving day-to-day living for them and their families. I believe that focusing on the development of meaningful, functional skills in motivating contexts is key to promoting children’s overall development.
