Hubble bubble toil and trouble… Just as we settle the kids back to school after a long summer, October half-term creeps up. Fear not, parents and guardians, for we have found some of London’s top family-friendly and SEN friendly interactive activities which you and the little ones can enjoy during the October school break.

Date: until 28 October 2018

This October half-term, Re-live all the colours of the rainbow at The Rainbow Revealed – an award-winning exhibition at Horniman Museum in Forest Hill, which explores the endless ways in which colour shapes our world.

Be dazzled by how colours are made and perceived, discover how animals use colour and look into what colours mean to different cultures. There are plenty of interactive games to get stuck into including an Art Machine, a Mood Room and a Colour Café!

SEN EARLY EXPLORERS – BATTLE BUS SPECIAL

Date: throughout half term week & 27 October 2018

Make-and-take in our craft workshops or join in at the London Transport Museum’s latest story time tales throughout half term week.

For families with SEN, the next SEN Early Explorer event will be held on 27 October.

The museum is hosting a Battle Bus exclusive to commemorate the end of the First World War in 1918. Find out how the war affected people and transport in London and get an exclusive opportunity to climb on board our Battle Bus (not normally available to visitors).

Book early to avoid disappointment – under 18s go free.

GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU

Dates: 20-21 October

“I love you right up to the moon – and back.” Join Little & Big Nutbrown Hare, from the bestselling kid’s book, Guess How Much I Love You, as they leap off the page and onto the stage at the ArtsDepot (North Finchley), in a magical journey through the seasons.

This enchanting story of love and nature comes to life on the stage through puppets, live music and lots of audience participation for children 3 years and up.

SEN FRIENDLY SCREENING OF INSIDE OUT

Date: Monday 22 October

Catch a SEN friendly viewing of the heart-warming Pixar film Inside Out at the Royal Albert Hall this October half-term. They aim to make a trip to the cinema a more relaxed experience for children with additional needs including autism, sensory and communication challenges.

This interactive family music workshop with will explore the film’s themes to create new stories and music.

 

KIDS’ SPOOKY PARTY

Date: Friday 26 October

Burgh House and Hampstead Museum are hosting a party for young Londoners (8 and under), with spooky storytelling and creepy craft activities. There’s also a costume competition, so get thinking.

PUMPKIN CARVING

Date: Sunday 28 October

Here’s a freebie to end your half term break. Ramsey Flowers in Canonbury are offering the chance to carve a pumpkin, make compost or do some gardening.  Call it free, organic and environmentally friendly messy play!
