SEN tutors with QTS
SENsational Tutors Ltd are looking for a highly experienced teacher with QTS to deliver engaging and personalised 1:1 tutoring sessions for a dyslexic and autistic student, aged 13, in Kensington, London. 20 hours per week, spread across Monday to Friday.
The successful tutor will have significant experience supporting autistic and dyslexic young people and be confident adapting teaching to meet the student’s individual academic, communication, sensory and emotional needs.
Full details will be discussed during interview; however, an overview of the role is below.
You will need to:
- Deliver tailored teaching activities to the student on a one-to-one basis;
- Plan and prepare engaging lessons in accordance with the student’s individual needs, strengths and learning style;
- Use appropriate dyslexia-friendly and autism-informed teaching strategies;
- Adapt resources and teaching methods to make learning accessible, structured and engaging;
- Help the student develop confidence, independence and a positive relationship with learning;
- Assess and monitor the student’s work and provide feedback to parents and other professionals/individuals;
- Support the student’s social and emotional development;
- Recognise and respond appropriately to the student’s sensory and communication needs;
- Work collaboratively with parents and other professionals involved in the student’s education;
- Supervise student safety;
- Any other tasks requested by your client/s.

Skills and requirements:
You will need:
- QTS;
- A proven record of being able to heighten pupils’ confidence, trust, self-esteem and love of learning;
- At least 5 years’ experience teaching and assessing children with SEN/SEND;
- Significant experience supporting autistic and dyslexic students;
- A strong understanding of dyslexia and evidence-based strategies for supporting literacy and learning;
- A strong understanding of autism and how to adapt teaching to meet individual communication, sensory and learning needs;
- The ability to creatively apply differentiated techniques to planning and teaching;
- 100% passion for education, commitment, reliability and honesty;
- Excellent communication, literacy and numeracy skills;
- Incredible patience, empathy and adaptability;
- An excellent knowledge of different learning styles and how to use these;
- The ability to work flexibly and attend meetings outside hours if necessary;
- To be a team-worker and collaborate effectively with families and other professionals;
- A valid enhanced DBS check on the update service;
- A willingness to apply for public liability and professional indemnity insurance;
- Register to work as self-employed.
