SEN tutor with QTS
SENsational Tutors Ltd are looking for a highly experienced teacher with QTS to deliver engaging and highly personalised 1:1 tutoring sessions for a student, aged 11, with complex needs in Buckinghamshire.
The successful tutor will have significant experience supporting children with complex SEND and be confident adapting teaching to meet the student’s individual learning, communication, sensory and emotional needs.
Full details will be discussed during interview; however, an overview of the role is below:
- Up to 15 hours per week, daytime Monday to Friday.
- Hourly rate: usually from £63 per hour to £70 per hour* (i.e. £945–£1,050 per week).
*Tutors are self-employed and able to set their own hourly rates.
You will need to:
- Deliver tailored teaching activities to the student on a one-to-one basis;
- Plan and prepare engaging lessons in accordance with the student’s unique needs and abilities;
- Adapt teaching methods and resources to ensure learning is accessible and engaging;
- Support the student’s communication, confidence, independence and engagement with learning;
- Assess and monitor the student’s work and provide feedback to parents and other professionals/individuals;
- Support and assess the student’s social and emotional development, reporting any issues as necessary;
- Recognise and respond appropriately to the student’s individual sensory and emotional needs;
- Work collaboratively with parents and other professionals involved in the student’s support;
- Supervise student safety;
- Any other tasks requested by your client/s.

Skills and requirements:
You will need:
- QTS;
- A proven record of being able to heighten pupils’ confidence, trust, self-esteem and love of learning;
- At least 5 years’ experience teaching and assessing children with SEN/SEND, ideally including children with complex needs;
- Significant experience adapting teaching for children with a combination of learning, communication, sensory and/or emotional needs;
- A strong understanding of individualised and child-centred approaches to education;
- Experience using AAC, visual supports or other alternative communication approaches would be advantageous;
- 100% passion for education, commitment, reliability and honesty;
- To creatively apply differentiated techniques to planning and teaching;
- Excellent communication, literacy and numeracy skills;
- Incredible patience, empathy and adaptability;
- An excellent knowledge of different learning styles and how to use these;
- The ability to respond calmly and appropriately to behaviour that may communicate distress or an unmet need;
- The ability to work flexibly and attend meetings outside hours if necessary;
- To be a team-worker and collaborate effectively with families and other professionals;
- A valid enhanced DBS check on the update service;
- A willingness to apply for public liability and professional indemnity insurance;
- Register to work as self-employed.
