SEN tutor with QTS
SENsational Tutors Ltd are looking for a highly experienced teacher with QTS to deliver engaging and highly personalised 1:1 tutoring sessions for a student, aged 14, with PDA and speech and language needs in Nottingham.
The successful tutor will have significant experience supporting young people with PDA, autism and speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and will be confident using a flexible, low-demand and relationship-led approach to learning.
Full details will be discussed during interview; however, an overview of the role is below:
- Up to 25 hours per week, daytime Monday to Friday.
- Hourly rate: usually from £63 per hour to £70 per hour* (i.e. up to £1,575 to £1,750 per week).
*Tutors are self-employed and able to set their own hourly rates.
You will need to:
- Deliver tailored teaching activities to the student on a one-to-one basis;
- Plan and prepare engaging lessons around the student’s unique needs, strengths and interests;
- Use a flexible, PDA-informed and low-demand approach to encourage positive engagement with learning;
- Adapt teaching and communication to meet the student’s speech, language and communication needs;
- Build trust, confidence and a positive relationship with learning;
- Use appropriate visual, communication and sensory strategies where required;
- Assess and monitor the student’s learning and provide feedback to parents and other professionals/individuals;
- Support the student’s social and emotional development;
- Recognise and respond appropriately to signs of anxiety, distress or dysregulation;
- Work collaboratively with parents and other professionals involved in the student’s education and support;
- Supervise student safety;
- Any other tasks requested by your client/s.

Skills and requirements:
You will need:
- QTS;
- A proven record of being able to heighten pupils’ confidence, trust, self-esteem and love of learning;
- At least 5 years’ experience teaching and assessing children and young people with SEN/SEND;
- Significant experience supporting young people with PDA and speech, language and communication needs;
- A strong understanding of autism and PDA-informed approaches to education;
- Experience adapting communication and teaching for young people with speech and language needs;
- The ability to use flexible and creative approaches to reduce demands and support engagement;
- 100% passion for education, commitment, reliability and honesty;
- To creatively apply differentiated techniques to planning and teaching;
- Excellent communication, literacy and numeracy skills;
- Incredible patience, empathy and adaptability;
- An excellent knowledge of different learning styles and how to use these;
- The ability to respond calmly and appropriately to behaviour that may communicate anxiety, distress or an unmet need;
- The ability to work flexibly and attend meetings outside hours if necessary;
- To be a team-worker and collaborate effectively with families and other professionals;
- A valid enhanced DBS check on the update service;
- A willingness to apply for public liability and professional indemnity insurance;
- Register to work as self-employed.
