About me

I have worked with students with SEND and their families for 14 years in a variety of roles including as an assistant head teacher in a specialist school. I hold Qualified Teacher Status, a PGCE with SEN and a Doctorate in Education focusing on autism education. I have significant experience working with children with autism, ADHD and learning disabilities to make progress with Maths, English, life skills, social skills and community skills. My teaching has a focus on independence and communication using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) approaches. Additionally, I developed and led a Primary PGCE with SEND and led the BA Primary Education course at a London University as Senior Lecturer in Education (SEN). I have taught students with dyslexia, autism and ADHD up to degree and postgraduate level, both in groups and one-to-one.

Skills & Experience

Teaching Philosophy

All children can make meaningful progress in their learning when their teacher takes the time to understand them as an individual within their family context. At the core of my teaching is a focus on developing respectful relationships based on trust. Wholly personalised learning that takes place within a trusting relationship is the key to real progress.

All of my teaching is informed by up-to-date, research to ensure that all students receive high-quality education, tailored to them as individuals.

Something Sensational About Me

My first ever job was working as a play worker at a charity that provided play and leisure sessions to disabled children and their families. This job led me to specialist teaching, research and school leadership but it remains one of my favourite jobs because of the relationships I made with whole families.
