About me

Primary teacher specialising in alternative provision, challenging behaviour and trauma informed practice. Experienced in SEMH, SEND and neurodivergence having worked in a primary Pupil Referral Unit for 5 years since obtaining QTS. Creative with a keen interest in art and design, emotional regulation, sensory play and building trusting relationships with students and families. Primarily specialising in KS1 and lower KS2 curriculum.

Skills & Experience

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching style is underpinned by a trauma informed approach, using methods such as PACE (playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy) and the Dr. Bruce Perry model of 'regulate, relate, reason' to de-escalate behaviour and regulate emotions.

I believe that all children should be accepted and celebrated for who they are. I value the understanding of the whole child and fostering a trusting relationship in education. In my teaching background I have seen and appreciated how mainstream teaching isn't effective for every child and the importance of meeting the needs of the individual.

I like to teach using an informal, humorous and playful approach in order to build trust with a pupil. I want them to feel comfortable in their learning environment, have little anxiety and feel empowered to freely make mistakes and see these as a learning opportunity. I use creativity to engage, and motivate students to value their education, be proud of their achievements and to see how far they have come.

Something Sensational About Me

  • I was part of the school improvement journey that grew my previous school from 'Inadequate' (Ofsted 2021) to 4 'Exceptional' ratings (Ofsted 2026), and obtaining the Trauma Informed Schools UK award (2026).

  • A parent of my last cohort gave me this card which I value dearly and I hope sums up my teaching style!

'Thank you so much for helping my little boy to find his smile again at school. I will forever be grateful for the care, kindness and sense of belonging he found with you all, and I am so thankful that my boy could experience being celebrated as the wonderful child that he is. I am so glad you exist and are able to catch kids like mine!' (2026)

  • I also used to be a face painter at Legoland once upon a time which can come in handy working with children! I'm always happy to face paint and teach students to face paint if that is something that they would enjoy!
