About me
I have many years of experience in the SEN sector, having taught many young people from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5, and the majority of the students I worked with have had a learning difference or could be defined as neurodivergent. Colleagues have told me I am patient, empathetic and have an ability to connect with anyone. I have been described as calm, even in stressful situations I can be relied upon to professional, resourceful and productive.
Skills & Experience
Teaching Philosophy
My overriding teaching philosophy is that the majority of young people – in fact, humans in general - have an innate desire to learn, achieve and behave well. Excluding serious mental illness or, perhaps, some cognitive issues, I believe that it is that the only barriers to learning are personal circumstances, the general learning environment and previous life experiences of an individual; it is the responsibility of the SEN educator to help their students to, for the most part, overcome any barriers. To summarise, and very generally, people are products of their environment; if you create an environment that is safe, nurturing and happy, the student will perform well. This obviously takes time and patience.
An unending arsenal of dad jokes, an ability to conjure a lesson based on the obscure interests of the presenting teenager and patience as deep as the ocean help immensely too!

Choose me if…
I really enjoy what I do and will do the best I can to support the education and welfare of anybody I am asked to teach. Without fail, the most important person when doing my job is the individual in front of me.
Something Sensational About Me
I have a condition called Meniere's Syndrome which can lead to hearing loss. I wear a Bone Anchored Hearing Aid (a BAHA) to help with my hearing loss. I consider myself to be in good company: famous people who had the same condition are (possibly) the artist, Vincent Van Gogh, the writer of 'Gulliver's Travels', Jonathan Swift, and the sixth person to walk on the moon, Alan Shepherd. Though I have some ambitions, walking on the moon is not one of them so, to be honest, I think I will be able manage most of life's challenges.
