About me

Hi, I’m Davina — an experienced teacher (QTS), former paediatric nurse and psychology (BSc Hons) graduate with over 18 years’ experience teaching primary and secondary age children across mainstream, specialist SEND and one-to-one settings. I work closely with families to understand the whole child — their emotions, strengths, interests and individual barriers to learning, and use evidence-informed approaches to create calm, creative, nurturing, holistic, bespoke and engaging sessions where children can feel safe, confident and excited about learning. My goal is not simply to help a child make academic progress, but to help them understand themselves as learners, build confidence and develop the skills and independence they need to flourish.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe every child can succeed when they feel safe, understood and valued, and that trust, emotional wellbeing and confidence are the foundation for meaningful learning and progress. I take a relationship-led, holistic and adaptable approach, taking time to understand each child as a whole person — their strengths, interests, sensory needs, emotional world and the barriers that may be getting in the way — and shaping my teaching around how they learn best. I believe learning should feel achievable and enjoyable, so I use creative, kinaesthetic, visual and interest-led approaches, adapting moment-to-moment and celebrating every success to help children build confidence, reconnect with curiosity and feel proud of what they can do.

Something Sensational About Me

When I’m not teaching, I love being outdoors, running, cycling, hiking, exploring nature and spending time with my family and our cute Cocker Spaniel. I enjoy discovering new places, going on adventures and appreciating the little things in the world around us. I also love art and music, and enjoy playing both the piano and the flute — I think creativity and having fun are such important parts of life.

I love travel and have been lucky enough to live in four different countries, which has helped me learn about different cultures, meet lots of interesting people, and see the world from different perspectives. I’m naturally curious and always excited to learn new things.
