Creativity and adaptability are the cornerstones of teaching and one size does not fit all, children need a bespoke approach. My breadth of experience enables me to take a realistic and informed approach to meeting individual children's needs through the use of both evidence based interventions and specialised programmes of support. Through developing an understanding of each child that I work with, I am able to tailor their learning to both engage them, have fun and enable them to make progress while celebrating the small steps to success along the way.
The fundamental building blocks of learning are developing attention and listening skills, shared attention, developing confidence and a growth mindset and building relationships. These are all skills which can both be taught discretely and intrinsically through curriculum based learning. I believe in taking a holistic and nurturing approach to ensure that children not only develop academic skills but also the wider understanding which enables them to become happy and independent adults.
All behaviour is a form of communication and it is important to unpick what different behaviours are trying to 'tell' us; is the issue a sensory one? is it because we need to adapt the activity that we are presenting to make it more manageable? or is it because the reaction that we are giving is one that is desired? or is it something else entirely? Through working with families and children I am able to support in developing an understanding of both why these behaviours are happening and what we can do to target them.

I have taught children with a range of Special Educational Needs for the past 12 years and am extremely passionate about what I do. I am very creative and have experience in a wide range of interventions such as Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction, Lego Therapy, Colourful Semantics and bespoke Reading, Writing and Maths interventions.
I take a play based approach and this enables children to develop attention, play and social skills in a fun and engaging way. Through a combination of evidence based interventions and child centred activities children are able to master skills in sequencing, comprehension and social understanding alongside developing their fine motor skills and speech.
I have taught children with SEN from the Foundation Stage to KS4 in both mainstream and specialist settings. I have a passion for early intervention and much of my career to date has focused on early language, social skills and motor skill development. I have a deep understanding of the early years curriculum and have tailored and adapted it to meet the needs of many children with SEN. I plan child centred activities to ensure that children are both happy and motivated to learn.
I am a qualified SENCO and work with children both in my specialist provision and across the mainstream school to overcome their barriers to learning. I work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals who I have both learnt from and have supported to ensure that the children that I teach have the best possible opportunities. This breadth of experience has enabled me to take a broader view of the education of children with SEN and the challenges that the children themselves face, alongside the challenges faced by parents and teachers at each developmental phase. I have worked extensively with professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists, OTs and Educational Psychologist to collaboratively design and deliver programmes of support. Through this multi agency working I have been able to enrich and develop my own practice and develop a broader view of how to meet children's needs.
I regularly deliver support and training to professionals and parents in a range of strategies to support the learning and development of children with SEN. I have worked extensively with families to support with all areas of development including strategies to develop language, friendship and social skills strategies, behaviour challenges, sleep issues, eating difficulties and toileting.
