I am a highly experienced qualified autism and speech/ language specialist practitioner with more than 10 years' experience working with pupils with SEN, ASD (autism) including PDA, ADHD, ADD and additional needs as a classroom teacher and with students on a 1:1 basis. Following my experience as a teacher, I was recognised for my passion for teaching pupils with autism and learning difficulties, tailoring the curriculum to their needs. A role was created for me; SEN Teacher/ SENCO. During this time I worked with senior leaders to adapt and embed inclusion policies and procedures.

I supported pupils in KS1 and KS2 in accessing the curriculum through scaffolding activities, developing interventions and strategies, breaking down tasks and providing clear self assessment criteria to encourage independence. I worked closely with class teachers and the SENCO to develop bespoke and creative learning programmes, and to ensure strategies were put in place to support skill development that was generalised to the whole curriculum.

I then worked in EYFS (Early Years aged 2+) supporting autistic and SEND pupils, where I developed knowledge and experience teaching the curriculum. I utilised creative play-based approaches to ensure the children enjoyed their learning whilst unlocking their potential. I most recently lead a unit of ASD (autism) pupils with complex needs in a specialist class in a mainstream setting. I devised and implemented the curriculum which was EYFS led with many pupils needing support with their basic needs, e.g toileting and feeding. There was a heavy emphasis on developing communication, social interaction, problem solving and independence. The aim was to create a personalised and fun curriculum for individual pupils to ensure they made progress.

I have extensive experience supporting children with speech and language difficulties. I have used PECS, ALS boards and Makaton to enhance communication and independence. I have also implemented Gina Davies Attention Autism Approach for building attention, expressive and receptive language along with independence. I also used Lego/Cooking Therapy and for following instructions, turn taking and consolidating curriculum learning.

I work towards building familiarisation and rapport with pupils and their families making sure our vision and goals are inline. I have experience using social stories, comic strips, role play, visuals and the Zones of Regulation resource with pupils to support them to identify and understand how to deal with their emotions and various social situations. In addition I have extensive knowledge and experience of Intensive Interaction to develop the fundamentals of communication whilst building a rapport and positive relationships with pupils to gain trust.

Working as Head of Inclusion Curriculum and Assessment, I worked towards embedding a curriculum and assessment framework for SEND learners in mainstream education. This entailed working with a team of dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants, colleagues within the Local Authority and the Senior Leadership Team. I worked collaboratively with Speech Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Specialist Teachers and Educational psychologists on the regular basis where I learnt teaching methods and strategies to support pupils. I am particularly familiar with strategies and methods used by Speech and Language Therapists for ASD learners. More importantly I ensured we worked as a multi disciplinary team ensuring best pupil outcomes.

The change in curriculum had a positive impact on pupils and their families where they were provided personalised and meaningful curriculums that celebrated their strength, motivations and interests. I also developed knowledge of the Early Years curriculum, more specifically tailoring the curriculum for learners with ASD and complex needs.

I have also assisted in-class by providing task organisers, visuals and strategies to support social communication (pragmatic language), independence and transitions. I have worked with pupils to reduce social anxiety and develop emotional regulation through personalised teaching methods.

What I can provide in my sessions:
- Visual timetables for routine, structure and independence.
- Personalised Social Stories/Comic Strips for reduced anxiety
- Zones of regulation and tools
- Development of Individual targets
- A concise assessment tool to track progress (vertical and lateral)
- Behaviour Support Plans
- Attention Autism programme
- Intensive Interaction programme
- A programme to develop social communication, emotional regulation and social interaction using SCERTS
-Development of spontaneous, receptive and expressive language through colourful semantics, PECS and TEACHH.
- Knowledge of TEACCH to develop independence
- Experience of developing EHCP plans with personalised targets
- Knowledge of EYFS and KS1; adapting the curriculum for SEND
- Knowledge of Colourful Semantics
-Sensory Circuits
-Sensory stories

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that real learning takes place when it is relevant and meaningful to the child, taking into account their interests and what motivates them. I am passionate about creating learning opportunities that are personalised to the child where they are intrinsically motivated to make a long lasting impact.

I always strive to ensure skills and knowledge are fully embedded, so they can be generalised across all areas of learning both academic and functional. I love developing and creating targets where I can see lateral progression and the small steps pupils make in achieving their targets.

Something Sensational About Me

I love travelling and seeing new places. After studying for my degree, I worked in Japan as an English Teacher, after which I travelled around South East Asia. On return from my travels, I trained as a Kathak dancer to diploma level.

Right now I am a dedicated mum to two beautiful young children, we love to play, eat , ,spend time together and go out and about.
