Specialist Experience and Skills

I'm a specialist SEN teacher in the field of ASD, MLD and EBD. I have been teaching in special need schools and mainstream schools for the last 12 years. I worked for Hackney Learning Trust as an Advisory Specialist teacher. I was advising teachers and teacher assistants on how to teach special need students. I would now like to do some tutoring with special need students. I’m also coaching families to reach their special need child to fulfil their full potential by remediating the core deficits of autism. I give them strategies to develop a genuine relationship, connect and improve their quality of life.

I help children with a variety of special needs such as ASD (including non-verbal and pre-verbal children), MLD (Moderate Learning Difficulties), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), GDD (Global Developmental Delay), and DS (Down’s Syndrome), Epilepsy, LD (Learning Disabilities) and ELD (Expressive Language Disorder). I support parents to overcome their child’s diagnosis as well as giving them the opportunity to help their child to develop their brain.

Mother of an autistic child myself, I have seen fantastic improvements due to the eclectic approach that I have used. I believe that: “Neural connectivity can change throughout life”, therefore special needs students can really improve according to the strategies that we are using. My method of teaching is flexible and constructive in order to build skills for life to encourage a switch to independence.

I have experience with verbal and non-verbal students from the spectrum. My son was non-verbal until 9 years old, he started to talk after an extensive work done with me on a one to one.
I have the expertise to help with communication and have strategies to teach you how to enhance verbal and non-verbal communication. I have worked really closely with SLT and can use Symwriter and In print 2 during my lessons.

My Teaching Philosophy

I'm a flexible teacher who can build a relationship in order for the students to be available to learn. A stressed nervous system does not learn. Therefore, I work on the relationship in order for real learning to take place. Autism is my expertise.

Something Sensational About Me

I speak French fluently.
I exercise every day.
I love reading and aim to write a book on Autism about the learning journey with my son entitled:
Autism, My best friend.
