My experience of teaching spans three decades. Having worked as a primary class teacher in three inner London schools I specialised in Dyslexia from Dyslexia Action in 2005 and soon after found a position at this Institute as a specialist teacher. I had worked at this establishment till April 2017 until it went into administration.
My experience at Dyslexia Action included one to one tutoring, group teaching, awareness training, training of TAs and Teachers in schools on specialist resources like the Units of Sound and Active Literacy kit, and training case workers in Youth Offending Training Schemes as well as some work in the prison sector. I have also given study skills support to college students
I have worked in an Ark Academy in Elephant and Castle as a specialist teacher for 9 years. Here, I was responsible for screening students, testing of students for Exam Access arrangements and their online applications and form 8s. My work also stretched to supporting the Spld students Academy-wide, and training TAs on various supporting strategies and resources. I was also the lead on the withdrawal programme for Fresh Start, part of the Ruth Miskin Literacy intervention. I was also responsible for giving in-class best practice guidance to teachers for supporting Spld students in the Academy.
At present I am working in a maternity cover in a School in Twickenham as a Manager of a Specialist Resource Provision. The work involves the teaching and managing the EHCPs of students as well as assessing students for Spld needs and Exam Access Arrangements.
My forte and passion is Specific Learning Differences and I am very keen to enter into a specialist establishment which cares for and understands students with these needs. My capacity of bespoke teaching and adapting the curriculum to suit the learner, as well as providing teachers with the tools to create the best possible environment for students to flourish in, is something that I would pride in bringing to any work place.
My Teaching Philosophy
For me a vital component of a teacher is the knack of drawing out the best in every student. I feel I am able to do this well by discovering the barriers to their learning in a friendly and relaxed manner. A chatty yet professional atmosphere is created to ensure a strong rapport is built in the relationship.
It is important to have high expectations however the environment must be where the student feels that mistakes are only steps towards learning and something quite normal. This allows their self-esteem to grow stronger.
As a trained specialist teacher my pivotal philosophy is that of self-discovery, where the elements are presented to the student in such a way that they reach the goals themselves rather than being given the answers.
This method of teaching embeds learning in a much more permanent manner. I also prefer to incorporate the elements of a game in the learning which acts as a motivator and brings back the fun in learning.
Choose me if…
You are looking for:
- A knowledgeable and keen tutor who will fully commit to your child and their needs.
- Someone who is enthusiastic and passionate and will be patient with their way of learning.
- A tutor who is experienced and resourceful enough to help develop your child academically, as well as supporting them socially.
Something sensational about me
I am an energetic and active person who loves to be surrounded by nature whenever possible. Some of the things I have done are jumping out of a plane with a parachute, paragliding off the edge of a cliff, scuba diving and going up in a hot air balloon.
Other activities such as yoga zumba and swimming are part of my weekly routines.
I genuinely feel that keeping a healthy mind and body are both essential in a person’s wellbeing and learning can only take place until these elements are present.
