Experience, training and skills

I am currently employed as Head of Learning Support and am a member of the Senior Management Team in an expanding Preparatory School in North London.  I fulfil a wide range of roles associated with a senior leadership role.  This includes assessment and pupil tracking.  Inclusion, additional needs and learning support across the pre-prep and preparatory departments including EAL, very able and gifted children, and other children with a very widely spread ability range.

I have substantial experience of working within both mainstream and special school settings, particularly with students with associated learning impairments and students with language and communication difficulties, including specific learning difficulties and sensory processing difficulties.  This experience includes work throughout both primary and secondary school phases in mainly independent schools.

My leadership is specifically mentioned in the school’s previous Independent Schools Inspectorate report which commented “The leadership of the provision for additional needs is highly effective.” The most recent report asserted that all pupils including those with additional needs, able and EAL children made rapid progress from their starting point.  In June 2018, ISI rated the school excellent, the highest possible rating.

The quality of my work has been verified by a number of external professionals and also by OfSTED.  The learning support department at Whitefield was judged by OfSTED in April 2005 to be excellent. (inclusion) and in March 2008 as outstanding.

Further training:

Certificate of Psychometric Testing, Assessment and Access Arrangements.  British Psychological Society.  Chartered London Teacher FCoT.(M.Ed).

Postgraduate Course, Language and Communication Impairment in Children.  University of Sheffield.

My Teaching Philosophy

I am committed to ensuring that all students, but particularly those students with a special educational need, are fully included and that systems are put in place so that teaching and learning takes into account the different needs and learning styles of all students throughout the ability range.
