Experience, training and skills

I am a very experienced and committed teacher.  I have taught in both UK primary and secondary schools and I have tutored children and young people aged 8 – 16 at home. My experience includes working with Year 6 pupils preparing for SATS and GCSE students preparing for GCSEs: English Language, English Literature and Foundation Level Maths.

I am a very patient teacher. I am warm and friendly and I really enjoy supporting students to become active learners.

I hold Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills Status (QTLS). I am also a trained Reading Recovery Teacher, an ESOL Teacher and a Music Teacher (ATCL Diploma). I have been trained as a teacher to work in Primary and Secondary 14+ education.

I have worked in inner London primary and secondary schools over the past 25 years as an English as Additional Language Teacher, a Reading Recovery Teacher, and an Interventions Teacher and Support Tutor for English and Maths. I have also been a home Tutor a for the past eight years.

My teaching experience is of teaching: English Language (primary and up to and including GCSE); Reading and Literacy Skills; Maths (primary and up to and including Foundation Tier GCSE); and Music (instrumental: recorder; trumpet; creative music making; improvisation; )

I have particular experience giving extra support to children and young people who are attending mainstream school and who are currently finding some aspects of learning difficult. I work with children, parents and school staff (where appropriate) to identify what interests the young person, what they feel confident doing, what they think they need to work on or improve, and how they like to learn. I then tailor a programme of lessons that meet their learning needs, that engage the student and that include imaginative approaches into learning (suggested by the student and myself).

Lessons can incorporate multi-sensory and multi-media resources, games with educational outcomes, drama and role play and storytelling.
