Experience, training and skills
I am a fully qualified teacher and specialise in leading phonics intervention groups with children that need more support with their learning. Furthermore, once a week I run the School Start and coloured semantics targeted intervention groups for children that have difficulties with their language and sound awareness. I have been teaching children who use no or minimal spoken language to read by using interactive methods of reading. Such examples are running my finger just under the text as we read then ask the child to do the pointing, ask them to turn the pages at the right time, give them some story props so they can act out the story as it unfolds and take turns imitating what the characters are doing. I also use a device that can provide the children with added opportunities to interact with me and the book we are reading together, by showing them pictures that are related to the story.
Getting the children excited and passionate about learning is my aim. I strongly believe that multi-sensory and interactive teaching methods are not only the most effective for learning, but also the most enjoyable for both the children and me. My teachers, mentors and assessors have commented on “a very calm and purposeful atmosphere” in my classrooms and stated that children are “always engaged and often enthralled”. I believe in promoting mutual respect, be always in touch with the parents and the pupils needs, develop an environment where every voice can be heard and valued and where everyone listens to each other. I have some experience of parent’s evenings from attending them whilst on previous and present teaching placements. I have built up excellent relationships with staff throughout my teaching practices and I have had reports commenting on my polite, friendly and warming manner and find me approachable and demonstrate professional conduct in the classroom at all times. I am a keen, motivated and enthusiastic individual who has a passion for teaching and educating children.
In my previous placements I supported pupils with emotional, behavioural, communication and language difficulties of EYFS and Key Stage 1. I was working alongside the teaching staff in order to provide students with the basic English and mathematics skills, and social studies. Furthermore, my work was carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching areas with individuals or small groups. I collaborated with students, parents and special education teachers to help students become independently functioning adults by encouraging them to take part in craft, painting, dancing, singing with musical instruments and group games activities.
Moreover, I plan and organise weekly assemblies for two reception classes, aiming to help the children manage their emotions and teach them how to establish positive and rewarding relationships with others.I also plan learning activities and complete records, support in managing class behaviour, supervise group activities and look after children who are upset or have had accidents as I hold a First Aid certificate. In addition I take part in trainings and carry out administrative tasks. As a nursery nurse at Norbiton Day Nursery, I worked with children from birth to around five years, helping them to develop and learn new skills. I was highly involved in planning and supervising activities such as arts and crafts, music and cooking. Other activities included counting games, reading stories and developing language skills. I have previously had a full time job at a children’s soft play centre at Streatham Hub Children’s Centre for one year. I organised and delivered play sessions for children aged between three months to five. This included developing many creative activities for all abilities and organising the specific resources needed. This continually developed my skills in teamwork, creativity and differentiation. Due to a variation in age, it allowed me to demonstrate my capabilities in differentiation activities to ensure maximum enjoyment for each individual child.

My Teaching Philosophy
I strongly believe that children should be taught positively and given guidance in life to appreciate morals, values and equality for all people. I believe learning should be an enjoyable process where all children feel inclusive and happy.
I am a qualified teacher and I was QTS awarded on February 2014. I graduated with a 2:1 Bachelor degree grade from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, and my specialist area of studies is English Literature and Theoretical and Applied Linguistics. I am specialised in all levels, groups and individuals. From a young age, I have been involved in my younger siblings learning and development. I gained a sense of pride and achievement, as I helped them grow into strong readers and independent thinkers. Having the patience to explain new words, sentences and concepts with clarity, to a younger audience has pushed me forward to discover how children develop.

Something sensational about me
“I am very happy with Irisa’s professionalism, capacity to adapt to my child’s needs , dedication to her job and overall help by providing me with important advice regarding my sons development. Irisa has been always happy to help me with any questions I had towards my son’s development and her experience helped me trust her and build a very nice relationship with her. My son wasn’t talking any English in the beginning but learned with Irisa’s help. She has been on my side even when I was facing huge difficulties with my son’s behaviour management.” – mum of son aged 6”. December 2018
