Experience, training and skills

Emma is a qualified and passionate teacher with over 10 years’ experience classroom teaching and private tutoring. She has taught KS2 and KS3 Maths and English and also teaches Latin and French. Her students have gained places to Westminster, St Pauls, North London Collegiate, Haberdashers, Latymer, Dame Alice Owen and QE Boys, amongst other schools. Last summer, her student was awarded one of the coveted Westminster 13+ scholarships, which only students at Westminster Under School usually receive.

I inspire children to develop a love of learning through real-life, stimulating activities including Maths Enrichment programmes. I help children to deepen and broaden their understanding and to explore all of the exciting learning opportunities around us.

August 2008 to present

Private tuition: 11+, 13+ in preparation for entrance exams for top independent and selective high schools, with students aged 9 – 12

Complete 11+ preparation including: Maths, Numerical Reasoning, English (Comprehension and Composition), Verbal Reasoning, Non Verbal Reasoning.

I have also written my own resources, with strategies not available elsewhere.

Many of my former students have gained places at 11+ at St Paul’s, Westminster, Latymer, Henrietta Barnet, North London Collegiate, etc.

April 2016 – present

Head of Latin and French, Teacher of Maths Heathside High School (5 days/week)

In addition to teaching Year 5 – 8 French, Maths and Latin at 13+, I teach Scholarship French and Latin to prepare for Westminster Challenge and have choreographed a dance performance for a group of girls at Arts Depot Theatre

Sadly, when long-term road works started, the daily commute took much longer than expected (up to 4 hours daily commute), so I resigned.

Responsible for Schemes of work and teaching Latin to every class from complete beginners up to 13+ Scholarship level inclusive.

Teacher of English to Year 5, preparing for 11+ Composition, Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning (mixed ability class)

Head of Latin, Hendon Prep School, part time

Position involved all planning, lesson delivery, marking, assessment and report writing, liaison with parents and colleagues, maintaining all Classics teaching resources within the allocated budget, writing all schemes of work for Year 5 to 8 inclusive. In addition, I held a voluntary but very popular Latin club every week.

September 2012 – August 2013

Avanti House Senior School, part time (a newly established Secondary free school)

Head of Latin teaching every class, teacher of Mathematics to a mixed ability year 7 class every day throughout the year. This involved creating long term projects and end of module tests for the class in addition to regular teaching and marking. The position also involved teaching History, French, English and Fine Art (drawing, painting and three dimensional work) to mixed ability groups.
