Experience, training and skills

I am an experienced teacher, Head of Learning Support, SENCO/ Learning Support teacher and counsellor in schools. My role is to assist and support students, teachers and the parents resulting in the best path for the child’s academic development, It is so very important for children to know that each person is unique with their own unique talents. I am well versed in the special needs code of practice as well as liaising with outside professionals. During my 32 years of working with children. I have assisted children with various conditions such as Select Mutism, OCD, depression (which effects learning). I have taught skills& advocated for students with Autism, Agenesis Corpus Callosum, ADD/ADHD, Sturge Weber Syndrome, Multi-Sensory Integration, Dyslexia, Asperger’s, Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, Dysgraphia, Dyspraxia, Auditory Processing Disorders, blindness& Speech/Language Disorders . Also, as I am trained in SEN and EAL, I am able to distinguish if language is a factor in the learning difficulty. Early intervention is crucial for a successful and meaningful path . I am also qualified and registered to perform, and interpret educational psychological testing .

I believe each child deserves to academically achieve and to flourish emotionally in order to reach their dreams and full potential. I believe a school/teacher has a pivotal role in a child’s development, as we have the ability to support and provide the needed academic and emotional tools for a child’s happy and productive life. I understand how children today are confronted with many academic and emotional challenges. Through kindness, teamwork, empathy and my Master’s Degree training in Special needs teaching as well as my years of learning support teaching for ages 3 to 20 , I have a solid record of children obtaining academic progress while maintaining their self esteem. Also, I have 32 years of working with children ages 3 to 20 across the world. I experienced and understand completely the details and the demands of the IB in relation to students with special needs.

In my Learning support roles, including head of learning support in previous schools, my core responsibilities have been proactive in my support for the child by providing /scheduling 1to1sessions or group sessions, offering parents and ;teachers practical/useful interventions, liasing with teachers, parents, SLT; LSA’s, assessing and creating IEP’s. Most of all, the student is at the heart of everything we do. Team work for the child proves to be a key to their success which includes organising and communicating with the school and parents. In all situations I provide kindness, patience, and the willingness to listen every person.

My Teaching Philosophy

I am a caring, kind and patient teacher and counsellor who goes the extra mile for students. I believe in treating every person with kindness and respect as every individual deserves to feel valued. I believe instruction should match a student's learning style while also offering opportunities to obtain new skills that can be transferred as the student becomes older. I also attempt to present lessons that have interest and creativity.

Something sensational about me

I have lived all over the world to include Japan, Thailand, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain, U.S.A and England to name a few.  I have played with baby tigers, ridden elephants , climbed pyramids and participated in 500 mile cycle rides. As a young child I was considered to be a slow learner, but grew up to attend Cambridge.  I enjoy art and history.
