Experience, training and skills

I am a fully qualified teacher of 17 years with extensive experience in both the classroom and on a 1:1 basis. Within schools, I have fulfilled roles at a middle management level as both year group leader and phase leader and have experience of teaching from KS1 to secondary level. My true specialism lies in teaching within KS2 where I pride myself on having an excellent knowledge of the maths and Literacy curriculum. I have also worked for many years as a private tutor providing general curriculum support and also 11+ preparation. All my students have successfully gained entry to the schools of their choice. I was also part of a government funded scheme whereby particular pupils within both primary and secondary settings were offered 10 weeks of 1:1 tutoring to boost their attainment.
I have a diploma in psychology which has fostered my interest in SEN pupils and their individual needs and styles of learning. I currently work as an SEN teacher in a mainstream school where I support both low-attaining and SEN pupils. It is my aim to enable them access to the curriculum in a supported way as well as bringing about a sense of greater independence and confidence in them. I have taught children with a wide range of needs including: ADHD/ADD, Autism, emotional difficulties, behaviour issues, EAL, dyslexia, dyspraxia and speech impairments. I am passionate about the challenge of looking for specific ways to get the best out of each child that I teach.

My Teaching Philosophy

I have always loved working with children and especially enjoy their sense of being in the moment. It is thoroughly rewarding for me to see children that I have taught achieving their goals and making progress both academically and in terms of their personal self-belief. I believe that children learn in different ways and feel that I have become attuned to finding the most successful path for each child's particular learning journey. Forming strong and meaningful relationships with the children I teach is hugely important to me and it is this, in my eyes, that enables the best teaching and learning to happen.

Choose me if…

– You are looking for an expert in 11+, SEN, Maths, Literacy,
– Someone who is reliable, kind, patient, fun and wants to help your child achieve their best.

Something sensational about me

I am a strong believer in the connection between mind and body- healthy body, healthy mind as they say! I am an outdoor exercise enthusiast and always feel 100 times better for moving about in the fresh air. I believe in conquering fears and recently did a sky dive from 1500 feet. I am a positive and enthusiastic person who always has the interests of others at heart. I enjoy meeting new people and am always open to learning a thing or two myself from the children that I teach.
